Dear Friends, Customers and Community

Dear Friends, Customers and Community,

It is with both sadness and excitement for the future I am announcing my decision to move on from A Child’s Garden.

I am immensely proud of the role my store has played in supporting families over the years as they figure out how they want to be in the world with their new babies. We have always believed in education about our products and held firm in the philosophy that if we educate a customer out the door rather than pushing a sale on them, they will come back when they are truly ready to purchase something.

That philosophy has worked for close to a decade and a half. The proof is in the brand new parents stopping in with their infant on their first trip out of the house; the nursing mom needing a safe space to retreat to while shopping downtown; the grandfather who returns year after year knowing we remember the gifts they gave in the past; the teenager who comes in saying, “This was my favorite store when I was little!”; the parent reporting that the book we recommended was just perfect but now they are begged to read it over and over again; the customer whose sister we helped find perfect wrap for while living abroad coming back to tell us that she is now expecting; the pregnant couple who brought their parents in to learn about babywearing so they could all hold the new baby, and all of the hundreds of families who have registered with us over the years who have allowed us to support them as they grow.

As the landscape of downtown and the reality of the retail marketplace has shifted to more and more online shopping, the business side of a small brick and mortar shop has proven less viable. Perhaps someone else with the right energy and heart could find a niche for this community store in the changing marketplace. I am open to inquiries for someone to take over ownership of this special space. If you or anyone you know is interested in continuing the store, please have them reach out to me by Friday, January 24. For the right person at the right time in their life, it would be the perfect project to take on this retail labor of love.

The store would not have been this special place without my brilliant and caring staff and I am forever grateful that each one has taken such pride in the space and our role in the community. And a very special thank you to Lori who has been with me since before beginning and who is truly the consummate retail professional. Her attention to detail and ability to make the store look and feel like such a warm and inviting whimsical space has been a gift to everyone.

Some of the nitty gritty details:

As of Tuesday, January 7, the entire store will be 20% and all sales will be final.

If you have a store credit or a gift certificate, please come in as soon as possible and we will do our best to make sure you get any items you are looking for. We will honor any credit or gift certificate until the day we close but come in soon to get the best selection of merchandise.

Our final closing date is still to be determined.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. We can be reached at (413) 584-2242 or a

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your family and community,
